Dear friends in Christ,
As of July 1st our Cooperative Parish came to life. Rev Theilmann will continue at Drew UMC. Pastor Dayton will be at Lake Mahopac and Purdys UMCs. Rev. Porter will continue at Mt. Hope UMC. They will be the faces associated with the respective churches on Sunday mornings and will swap pulpits and meetings occasionally. During the daytime hours of the week Rev Theilmann and Rev Porter will be moving among the communities and churches, working with our secretary, addressing most administrative matters and consulting with staff and leaders. We will attend meetings in each congregation as necessary. Pastor Dayton will join us for most evening meetings and weekend events.
Our pastors share pastoral care in all these congregations Our goal is not to change a congregation but rather to respect the integrity of each and help it and the cooperative grow forward. Utilizing strengths found in each congregation we can leverage them in areas such as payroll processing, newsletter, website development, Youth Group, Sunday School, Small Groups, seasonal gatherings, music ministries, mission, and more. More ministry needs are now attainable within this wider parish and communicate new ways in which we can partner to learn, strengthen and grow. Together we provide opportunities for ministry and mission that one congregation could not accomplish alone.
Quarterly meetings with representatives from each congregation will discuss Nurture, Outreach and Witness ministries for the individual congregations and the cooperative. . Our Cooperative affords an opportunity to affirm and strengthen the gifts of our Lay Servants, recruit new Lay Servants, provide additional training for all thus enriching and expanding the NYCT District pool of Lay Servants.
Communication is important to our success and progress. To reach our secretary, Diane Farina, call 845-225-2019. Please leave messages if calling when she is not present. Office hours are Tues., Wed. & Thurs. 9-1 pm.
Please remember that all of us, pastors and congregants alike, are new to the cooperative parish model. We may try something and, after prayerful reflection, decide there is a better way to get the desired results. As we evolve we will discover our strengths and where we can leverage additional resources. If you have any creative ideas or suggestions for new ministries, fund raising, social gatherings within our cooperative, please let our pastors know. Let’s pray for success and see where God is leading us as we embark upon this new piece of United Methodist history.
